Reverb10 01/02 catchup

December 1 One Word.
Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you?
(Author: Gwen Bell)

For the past 8 years I think I've procrastinated my way through life with commitment to nothing specific, i was wandering through courses, education, jobs, plans, ideas. This year everything seems to have settled into a very solid base layer. My family is solid and fabulous, my job is solid and gives me pride and i finally feel that i might just get to the end of an undergraduate degree without getting bored and dropping out.

2011: Smooth
I'd like my plans to come together and have a year that runs nice and smoothly. Im not saying i don't like challenges but there are challenges and then there are *challenges* Ive just finished reading the Survivor Club and the internet based Survivor Profiler put me as a "resilient realist". which means that either i will learn and grow from adversity or perish because i believe in no higher power lol :)

December 2 Writing.
What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
(Author: Leo Babauta)

I'm not a writer per se so I'm not necessarily writing every day. I am however slogging my way through an open university under grad degree in health and social care and the majority of the work is writing essays. Even if i love the course material i really struggle with keeping momentum when im writing. Everything and anything can prevent me from writing. There always seems to be something more interesting to do rather than 1000 words on "qualitative and quantitative studies of Pakistani and Indian migrants in Scotland and their diabetes care" or "the value of the subjective and objective in mental health diagnosis" The Internet has a huge lure for me to browse the crap rather than write, and currently, so does baking. Its always much worse if there are other people in the house or if there is noise of any description. I cant eliminate the Internet because lots of the research is web based i just need to find some discipline! Noise and other people i cant eliminate either as that would be quite rude. I'm trying to learn to be able to write while listening to music which is having mixed success. I'm 100% more self disciplined and focused than previous years but I'm still easily distracted!
